MATERIALS LIST

Light and Life in Watercolor

Instructor: Alicia Farris

Paper

(Good paper is very important to me) I recommend:

  • 1-2 sheets of Arches 140 lb. or 300lb. cold press – 22” x 30 (we will use ¼ sheets)
  • Or a pad of Arches cold press paper (pad, not block) 9×12 or 10×15

Paint

Any watercolor paint tubes that you enjoy and the colors that you love to use.
This is what I have on my palette but don’t feel that you have to purchase all of these. I will use some but likely not all during the workshop:

  • Alizarin crimson
  •  Quinacridone Rose and/or Scarlett Lake
  • Dioxanine Violet or Mineral Violet (Holbein)
(Royal Amethyst in American Journey is the same as Dioxanine Violet)
  • Ultramarine blue
  • Cobalt Turquoise
  • Peacock Blue (Holbein or American Journey)
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Aureolin (or favorite warm yellow)
  • Raw Sienna
  • Burnt Sienna

Watercolor Brushes

  • Try to get good brushes that come to a point. I use brushes by Silver Brush Ltd.
  • I recommend at least a rigger or liner brush, #6 or #8 round, and #12 or #14 round

Miscellaneous

  • Palette with large mixing area –-Can be a white plastic plate -not Styrofoam or paper
  • Old towel
  • Tissues (no lotion)
  • Large cup or plastic container for water.
  • Divided food storage containers work great.
  • Masking tape or artist tape
  • Pencil (I like 4B-8B)
  • Sketch book
  • Gum eraser or white eraser
  • Board to attach paper – can be thick foam core

Optional, as I will bring photos to share – photos for possible subject matter- look for good dark and light values, squint your eyes and see if you see interesting shapes.
