From Classrooms to Studios: Clear Spring Faculty Finds Inspiration at ESSA
On December 13, 2024, the Eureka Springs School of the Arts (ESSA) welcomed sixteen faculty members from Clear Spring School for a day dedicated to creativity, collaboration, and rejuvenation. Designed specifically for their team, this faculty retreat provided an opportunity for participants to explore new art forms, develop skills they could share with their students, and reconnect with their creative spark.
Tailored Team Development Activities
The retreat was thoughtfully structured into two workshops, each aimed at fostering teamwork and artistic exploration. Faculty members were divided into two groups of eight, with one group attending a morning session and the other an afternoon session. All materials were included, ensuring participants could focus fully on their creative journey.
Workshop 1: Make a Copper Cuff Bracelet with Brynna Mollahan
Participants in this workshop delved into the world of small metals, exploring surface textures and patinas on copper. Brynna Mollahan, ESSA Studio Coordinator, artist, and instructor, guided attendees in creating stunning copper cuffs, rings, and pendants. Students also learned the basics of torch firing, texturing metal, sawing, and hammering.
Workshop 2: Exploring Alcohol Inks with Angela Robert
In the 2D Studio, faculty members were introduced to the vibrant and dynamic medium of alcohol inks. Angela Robert led the group in experimenting with tools and techniques to create mesmerizing effects. From supernova-like patterns to kaleidoscopic cloudscapes, participants discovered endless possibilities with this medium and produced incredible artwork to display. One participant remarked on the sheer joy of watching the inks flow and transform into something magical.
A Day to Recharge and Reconnect
Beyond the workshops, the day offered moments for faculty to recharge and connect with one another. ESSA staff and Clear Spring faculty enjoyed lunch from the nearby Bombadils Food Truck, providing a delicious break that everyone enjoyed. The atmosphere was lively, and the creative energy was palpable throughout the day.
