On Saturday, June 21st of 2025, the Eureka Springs School of the Arts opened its doors and studios for our first Studio Stroll of the season—and what an inspiring afternoon it was! Guests were treated to artist talks, live demonstrations, and behind-the-scenes access to student work and creative processes, all while enjoying the beauty of our campus in full summer swing.
If you missed it, here’s a recap of each stop along our stroll—with plenty of reasons to join us next time.
A Sparkle of Silver with Brandy Boyd
The stroll began in the Small Metals Studio, where Brandy Boyd, instructor of Kitchen Table Silversmithing, gave a lively and engaging presentation on the methods she teaches in her workshop.
Attendees gathered around workbenches filled with tools, shining gems, and silver pieces in progress. Brandy shared the accessible techniques she uses to help students create beautiful jewelry from home using a butane microtorch and a simple setup. Guests had the chance to ask questions about her process and admired the stunning pieces made by students—each one a unique reflection of newly learned skills and creative vision.
Clay, Color, and a Bit of Chaos in the Ceramics Studio
Next, we made our way to the Ceramics Studio for a truly memorable session with ESSA’s 2025 Summer Ceramics Artists in Residence, Beth Rosenkoetter and Kim Brook.
Beth kicked things off by throwing a large platter on the wheel, sharing stories from her career as an art teacher and how she found her way to clay. Her humor and warmth set the tone for a welcoming, educational experience.
Kim followed with a demo on throwing a ceramic orb (a deceptively tricky form!) before introducing a unique relief painting technique on ceramic surfaces. Then came a moment no one expected—Kim broke a vessel. Gasps turned to laughter as she passed around the shards, offering a powerful message about creative risk, process, and play. A few more dramatic breaks later, and the studio was filled with laughter, curiosity, and admiration.
Guests were also treated to an exclusive sneak peek at the impressive body of work Beth and Kim have been creating during their time as Artists in Residence at ESSA. From large sculptural pieces to intricately painted forms, their work offered an inspiring glimpse into the talent and dedication behind the scenes.
Cutting Edge Creativity with Bobby Babcock
The stroll continued across campus to the Windgate Iron Studio, where Robert (Bobby) Babcock’s Intro to Plasma Cutting workshop was in full swing.
Guests were amazed at what students had accomplished in just a few days—bold, whimsical sculptures made by cutting through metal with precision and flair. Bobby gave a fun and informative talk about his dual life as a high school art teacher and co-owner of Garden Deva, a Tulsa-based metal art business he runs with his wife. His approachable style and enthusiasm for teaching made this stop a favorite, especially for those curious about plasma cutting and metalwork.
Good Conversation, Great Company, and Refreshments to Top It Off
We wrapped up the afternoon with refreshments, shared laughter, and conversations that lingered long after the demos were done. New friendships were made, creative ideas exchanged, and many guests left feeling newly inspired to return to ESSA—for a workshop, a future Studio Stroll, or simply to soak up more of the creative energy that makes this place so special.
Thank you to all who joined us for this special afternoon of art, conversation, and community.
