Level: Beginner
Location: ESSA Windgate Building - Lathe Room

This two-day class will teach you all about basic lathe operations, stressing safe practices. You will experience turning both with the grain and across the grain and will be able to complete at least two turned projects such as a vase, candlesticks, a bowl, or a plate. Sanding techniques, finish selection and application will also be covered. You may bring your turning tools or use ESSA’s tools.

Instructor can supply wood at his cost, or students may bring their own wood.

Students must be 18 or older and show proof of vaccination to participate.

About Instructor

Kip Powers
Kip (Rogers, AR) has been turning for over 30 years, currently making small to moderate scale vessels from domestic woods. He is a co-founder of the Stateline Woodturners and has taught at ESSA and the Arkansas Craft School.
