All baskets are made from white oak trees that the instructor selects, harvests and prepares by hand using homemade tools made and used by his father in the Ozark tradition. All aspects of how a tree is turned into a pliable, flexible wood for weaving will be discussed. Leave each class with finished, traditional Ozark style handmade basket(s) that should last a lifetime.
Make two white oak baskets: the Waste Basket and the Square Pie Basket. You will finish 2 baskets and learn to weave a “herringbone” bottom in each. They will be woven over a mold and everyone should finish in class leaving with 2 beautiful Ozark style white oak baskets. The waste basket has a 6″ x 10″ bottom and is approximately 14″ deep. The square pie basket has a 10″ x 10″ bottom and is approximately 5″ deep excluding the oak handle.
