Date: March 2-4, 2023
Duration: 9 AM to 4 PM (CST)
Level: Beginner
Location: ESSA 2D Studio

In this beginner class, Richard will spend time on the essential tools of the trade: brushes, water, paints, and paper. You will be guided through some basic exercises such as color mixing, creating textures, the importance of “timing” in watercolor, water/pigment ratio. You will discover how watercolor is vastly different from opaque mediums. Richard will share a few “tricks” to use in watercolor, suggestions on working from photos, the importance of developing basic drawing skills, and doing value sketches. Of course, DESIGN Principles are of utmost significance…but, in this class, exposure to the tools and physics of watercolor is the focus. There is a demonstration painting each day; the students work on their paintings with lots of one-on-one time with the instructor A successful painting is NOT our goal…becoming familiar with the tools of watercolor is what it is all about.

Students will purchase their own materials, see materials list.

Students must be 18 or older to participate.
