Learn to carve in alabaster stone using the subtractive method. You will learn about the history and types of stone carving, how to draw and mark the stone for the process of subtraction, as well as shaping, sanding and finishing the stone. You may carve an animal shape or any type of form or shape that you desire.

Bruce Wright (Eureka Springs, AR) has worked as a stonemason for decades, including 12 years with the National Park Service as a Historic Preservation Mason, working on National Treasures and Monuments. Bruce followed his curiosity about stone sculpture, becoming self-taught by studying the masters of old. Bruce’s passion is stone carving and sculpture, and he shares his talents and experience with others so that students may seek the therapeutic art of passion found in the environment and nature.
