Young Artist Scholarships

Youth Scholarship

We also offer our Young Artist scholarships. The award covers the cost of tuition for a five-day workshop during our Young Artist Week July 10th-13th. Recipients are responsible for paying model fees and material fees.




Applicants are notified approximately 3 weeks after the application deadline.

Individual scholarships provide full coverage of workshop tuition. They are awarded to a student to take a specific workshop based on financial need and/or various criteria depending on the source of the funds. For all scholarships, you can find the application form on the righthand of this page or we can send you an application in the mail.

ESSA’s scholarship program is funded by the generous donations of patrons just like you every year. Approximately 10 scholarships per year are awarded in various media, also awarded are three special scholarships each year in memory of Patt Carmichael, Jack Miller and Carol White.

Applicants must submit: Complete Application form, three good quality images of  current work, a letter of intent (1 page maximum) and two letters of reference.

Work Study Scholarships

Penny Sullivan in Wayne Summerhill’s Fall Beginning Sculpture Class thanks to ESSA’s work study program,

Work study scholarships are awarded to qualified individuals who may need help in meeting the expense of an ESSA workshop.Upon completion of 30 hours of work, one 5-day workshop is provided to the student-employee. Lodging is not provided, but in the case it is needed we will try to assist individuals. Class material fees and model fees, when applicable, are the responsibility of the student. ESSA considers individuals who are mature, team oriented, self-motivated and interested in the arts. Enthusiasm and commitment are required for these positions.Work study assignments vary from season to season. All work-study assignments will be based on an individual’s strengths.

Work study scholarships do not cover model or material fees.High school students 16 and older are encouraged to apply for these opportunities as well as adults.

Applicants must submit: Complete work study application form, three good quality images of current work (On a CD, USB or Digital Copy), a letter of financial need, your background in the arts, if any (prior experience in craft is not a requirement), and the goals that you hope to achieve in the workshop for which you are applying. (2 page maximum)

After the application deadline, which is March 15, 2016, a review committee meets to select which students are eligible to be interviewed for the available work study positions for the year, after all interviews have been conducted, a placement will be made and you will be notified in writing.
