Nyle Gordon – Best of Show – $500 and $1100 Plein Air  Magazine Award (Photo by: Ron Lutz)
Last week if you drove or walked around Eureka Springs you may have noticed easels peppering the landscape downtown and in surrounding areas. What you may not know is that the artists behind those canvasses were all taking part in the Inaugural Eureka Springs Plein Air Festival or ESPAfest! Over the course of five days painters participated in four daytime paintouts, one nocturne paintout and five plein air painting workshops. Each night ended with a reception and pop-up gallery at many fine Eureka establishments. (The 1886 Crescent Hotel, KJ’s Caribe Restaurant + Catina, Brews Taproom, and the Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center) Awards were given out at the end of each day…including purchase prize awards, people’s choice awards, best-in-show award, 1st, 2nd, 3rd place awards and honorable mentions. At the time, we did not envy the job our judges had ahead of them—viewing amazing painting after amazing painting each night, trying to make a selection. Talk about a hard job!  All in all, we were astounded by the skill and talent of the painters participating in our Inaugural Plein Air Festival and we welcome you all back next year to come and PAINT THE TOWN again! Â
Sincerely,
ESSA (Eureka Springs School of the Arts) Staff &Â PAPES (Plein Air Painters of Eureka Springs)
